The Gaston Place shopping center, located at 4201 Gaston Avenue, is currently home to a T-Mobile, Divino’s (cheap and greasy New York-style pizza that isn’t too shabby) and an abandoned Office Depot. Come late July, however, the shopping center will welcome a new anchor tenant in the former Office Depot location. Construction has been underway for months in the Gaston shopping center in preparation for the opening of Garland-based grocer’s El Rancho Supermarket. Yesterday I spoke with El Rancho’s VP of operations, Tim Willingham.

“We believe this neighborhood has a lot of potential,” Willingham says, adding that he personally likes the neighborhood and thinks the bilingual El Rancho Supermarket will be a great fit.

Willingham tells us, “We will have a bakery where we make tortillas from scratch and a taqueria inside the store.”

The El Rancho website also informs us that the store will have an agua fresca bar with multiple varieties of sweetened water flavored naturally by fruits and flowers, such as tamarind and hibiscus.

Construction is tentatively expected to be complete by July 30. Stay tuned for details about the grand opening party and watch the video below to see what El Rancho is all about.
