It’s been a good year for the football teams within East Dallas.

First off, Bishop Lynch’s football team won state last weekend during the TAPPS Division I State Championship game against rival Bishop Dunne. The team ended the fourth quarter with a 21-17 win taking the Friars into their first state football title in 13 years. The night was also an especially memorable one for head coach Chuck Faucette who has been in his first season heading up the program.

However, the win had been on Faucette’s mind from the beginning.

“I had a mockup state championship ring designed and put on paper and that was my first meeting,” Faucette says. “I said ‘men, we’re going to win a state championship.’ ”

They did win and wrapped up the season with what Faucette calls a storybook ending adding they benefitted from the senior leadership on the team. As for what it took to get that win, Faucette boiled it down to focusing “on the little things.”

“We just went on a run at the right time and we caught fire and here we are holding a trophy,” Faucette says.

They may have lost their final game to Lancaster but Woodrow Wilson’s football team ended out the year with a nice title: bi-district and district champions. The high school team finished with a 10-2 season and a number of game highlights the student players could be proud of.

Bob Estes, Woodrow’s head football coach, says though they are losing a few key players who are graduating he is excited for the future. As for next season he’s planning on more success.

“I think we did well, it was a good season and we grew in some areas,” Estes says. “I’d just like to see us as a team continue to grow as individuals and as a group.”
