Bird chauffeur? No, the East Lake Pet Orphanage wasn’t asking people to put on a tailored black uniform, don a driving cap and take birds through the city. Well, they were, but without the uniform.

Back in December 2009, the Advocate discovered the pet orphanage was looking for people to transport injured and orphaned wild birds about 16 miles to a sanctuary in Hutchins.

The pet orphanage is a drop-off location for injured or orphaned wild birds before they are put in boxes and taken to the Rogers Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. One year, pet orphanage volunteers transported 300 birds during the spring and summer months. And, according to the orphanage’s website, they’re still looking for chauffeurs.
