District 2 trustee Dustin Marshall announced Monday that he would run again for the Dallas ISD school board.
Marshall was first elected to the board in June 2016 to fill the final year of Mike Morath’s three-year term after Morath left to become the Texas Education Agency commissioner.
A year later, Marshall beat Parkland physician’s assistant, Lori Kirkpatrick, in a runoff election for his own three-year term. Kirkpatrick said Monday she had not yet decided if she would run again in the May 2020 election.
“Serving the students of Dallas has been a great honor, and I am grateful for the trust the community has placed in me,” Marshall said in a statement. “I’m very proud of the accomplishments that Dallas ISD has celebrated over the last several years. Yet no matter how far we have come, we cannot forget how far we still need to go.”
Since his election to serve District 2, which includes parts of Lakewood, East Dallas and Preston Hollow, Marshall said he has worked to recruit and retain better principals, overhauled the school bus system and increased school funding to reduce property taxes.
