Chef Donny Sirisavath, owner of East Dallas eatery Khao Noodle Shop, is one of Food & Wine’s best new chefs in America.

The magazine praised the Laotian restaurant at 4812 Bryan St. for its flavorful dishes, such as the trio of crispy shrimp bites and the tapioca dumplings stuffed with pickled sweet radish. The magazine wrote:

The size of Khao Noodle Shop (tiny) betrays the level of flavor coming out of the kitchen (huge). Most plates on the menu are priced between $5 and $7, including the beloved boat noodles, a shockingly rich and deeply umami bowl of rice-noodle soup made with charred beef-bone broth, fistfuls of toasted spices like star anise and black peppercorns and a hefty pour of pork blood for texture.

“Congratulations to all members of the F&W BNC class of 2020,” Sirisavath wrote on Instagram. “We rock it, and we made it. Still in disbelief I’m a part of this class and Food & Wine family. I’ll have to come back with another post once I’ve woken up from this dream.”

Inclusion on the Food & Wine list is one of several accolades Sirisavath has received since opening the restaurant in 2018. Last year, Khao Noodle Shop was recognized by Bon Appetit as the No. 2 best new restaurant in America. Then in February, Sirisavath was named a James Beard semifinalist for Best New Chef: Texas.

The list of best new chefs was released at a challenging time for the restaurant industry as many eateries had to suspend dine-in service amid the coronavirus pandemic. In April, Khao Noodle Shop temporarily closed for takeout.
