Staff at Mata Elementary, Spanish House and Lumin Lindsley Park Community schools reported seeing a man near their campuses that matches the description of Daniel Gross, a “high risk” registered sex offender.

At Spanish House, staff say they saw a man approach the fence near the playground before heading into the woods behind the school. Administrators at Mata reported to parents that a similar incident. At Lumin, staff reported seeing a man matching Gross’ description came to the fence and ask to use the phone.

After a series of reports, police confronted the man in Lindsley Park, and he is now outfitted with an ankle monitor.

At 3 a.m. on Saturday, a northbound Ford sedan lost control after hitting the side of another vehicle on Garland Road. The Ford struck a light pole in the center of Garland near the intersection with Old Gate. The vehicle caught on fire, with the driver trapped inside. The occupant in the sideswiped vehicle and bystanders pulled the driver from the flames, but he was already deceased from the impact of the collision. No criminal charges have been filed, and the identity of the driver has not been released.
