Students from sixth through 12th grade can participate in a data challenge to help the City of Dallas discover how the coronavirus is affecting young people.
Students selected for the challenge will use math, data and coding skills to work on projects using data from Dallas County. They must showcase what they’ve learned in a creative way. Each submission must also come with recommendations that can be used for more targeted, effective messaging toward this age group.
Data professionals will mentor the students and help them develop their projects. A panel of judges will select the winners, who will receive prizes.
Although young people are not considered a high-risk age group for COVID-19, about 3,000 people under the age of 18 have been diagnosed with the disease since July 1.
The deadline to apply for the program is Sept. 3. It will run from Sept. 8-21. Winners will be announced Oct. 1.
