The proposed amendment to the zoning would allow for a new school to be built. A proposed traffic management plan will be presented to the public for input at the meeting, a spokesperson for Dallas ISD said. The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. July 13 at Hexter Elementary.

Designs for a new school to be built on the campus, located on Waterview Road near Peavy Road, have already been shared with neighbors.

Hexter Elementary was established in 1954. The replacement campus, a project from Dallas ISD’s 2020 bond, will facilitate 650 students.

Another East Dallas school, Geneva Heights Elementary, is currently under construction. With input from stakeholders, architects working on the Geneva Heights design incorporated the original 1931 building into plans. Demolition of the school began in September.

Geneva Heights is expected to reopen in fall 2024. Stay up to date with the project.
