The City of Dallas Transportation Department ordered scooter rental companies to cease operation in Dallas by Wednesday, Sept. 2, and to pick up all of their scooters by Friday.

The department sent an email to certain media outlets announcing that Dallas residents have complained to police that the scooters, which can reach 20 miles per hour, are dangerous.

Mike Rogers, the city’s transportation director, stated in the email that he plans to meet with Dallas residents and scooter companies to discuss the cancellation.

Dallas City Council voted to lift a ban on motorized scooters in 2018, and the newspaper estimates that there are now “perhaps 15,000” of them in Dallas.
