Centre in Mockingbird Station had two signs on the doors on May 14, one of which is pictured. On May 21, the signs remained, and the space appeared to be empty inside. Photo by Madelyn Edwards.
Athletic and streetwear retailer Centre in Mockingbird Station has closed, and the landlord is claiming that unpaid rent is the reason why.
“Tenant is currently in default under the lease for failing to pay rent due for the period of June 1, 2024 through March 1, 2025,” reads a letter dated March 4 and signed by Alva Kane, the property manager representing the landlord (CPUS Mockingbird, LP) that was posted on Centre’s door. “As provided by Article 20(d) of the lease, landlord has changed the locks to the premises.”
The notice also said a new key could be provided if the “tenant has cured all events of default.”
Another letter was posted on the door to warn people not to “re-key any lock” and help Centre re-enter the space.
Centre was established in 2007 and spent “12 years of being one of the only retail concepts of its kind in Dallas” before launching more locations, according to its website. The brand opened a store in Fort Worth in 2019 and another in Bishop Arts District in 2023. A location in Austin is coming soon. The Mockingbird Station store is not listed on Centre’s “About” page.
We reached out to Centre over email for comment on this story, but we didn’t hear back from the retailer.
