And neither was close, about seven to one for Cannaday in the sheriff’s runoff against Jim Bowles and almost three to one for Roberson in the Democratic runoff to see who gets to run against incumbent Pete Sessions for the U.S. House.

Cannaday should go into the November election against incumbent Lupe Valdez as the favorite, and this will be an election that speaks to how Democratic Dallas County has become. Roberson, on the other hand, will be a huge underdog against Sessions. If he wins, it will be the biggest upset in Dallas County in decades. The 32nd House district, which includes most of the parts of town where we do magazines, has returned Sessions easily in every race he has run. But if Roberson can raise a little money, and if he is serious about running an aggressive campaign that challenges Sessions on the war in Iraq, it might turn into an interesting little race.
