This just in, from Sally Ackerman of the Advocate’s crack ad staff: The mayoral campaigns are saving their ad money for television and radio ads. That’s what the various staffs told her when she called to sell them space in next month’s Advocate (in East Dallas/Lakewood, Lake Highlands, Preston Hollow and North Dallas — and by the way, you’ve missed April, but you can still get in May).

And this means attack ads. One of the best pieces of political wisdom I ever got came from a cranky old operative, who said: "If you have $1 million, you’re not going to spend it on yard signs." Instead, we will almost certainly see four to six weeks of really negative advertising, which opens up all sorts of possibilities. Will anyone play the race card? Will anyone play the gay card? What names will the conservative Republican Anglo candidates call the other conservative Republican Anglo candidates?
