Angela Hunt did not score points when, in one of her first important votes in the City Council, she helped give the Hunt family its tax rebate for its new downtown headquarters. But she has apparently seen the light.

Hunt’s votes and actions have been consistently pro-neighborhood since then, culminating in her speech Tuesday at a Trinity River bridges hearing before the city council. Hunt, according to Dallas’ Only Daily Newspaper, was positively Smithian (a reference to Jimmy Stewart in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington for those of you who don’t know one of Frank Capra’s most brilliant efforts) in criticizing the bridges. Best yet, The News’ Dave Levinthal reported that "More than one of her council colleagues rolled their eyes" at Hunt’s speech.

Welcome to the club, Angela. Those of us in the neighborhoods get that treatment all the time. It’s amazing how stupid we are because we dare to disagree with their vision of what’s good for Dallas.
