Tucked away on 6725 Lakewood Blvd. lies a historic 1929 home. The single-family property has been home to many, including Phillips Brooks Keller, Helen Keller’s brother.
Born on July 4, 1891, in Alabama, Phillips moved to Texas in the ’20s where he married his wife Ravia Belle Walker. The two had a son and daughter, Phillips Brooks Keller Jr. and Katherine Elise Keller. The family resided on Lakewood Avenue from sometime in the 1940s until the early ’70s, according to mail archives.
The two-story home’s estimated value is nearly $2.5 million and consists of a two-car garage, five bedrooms four and a half bathrooms. Interior features include a built-in wine cooler, ceramic tile flooring, multiple fireplaces and two dining rooms.
Helen Keller was a frequent visitor to Lakewood and would make continual visits to Dallas with her companion, Polly Thompson to see her brother for a few days, The Times Hen reported in 1946.
According to online records, the home has gone through five owners from 1999 to 2024.
Phillips died at age 79 in 1971 along with his wife Ravia. The couple is buried at the Restland Funeral Home & Memorial Park, at 13005 Greenville Ave.
Their children no longer resided in Texas following their parent’s death. Pillips Brooks Keller Jr. died on August 6, 1986, in Denver, CO and Katherine died on August 30, 1988, in New Orleans, LA. According to records, neither of them had children.
