Dallas Arboretum Independence Day Family Fun Weekend

The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden will host an Independence Day weekend event including live music, a petting zoo, 150 colorful hammocks throughout Pecan Grove and a floral in fashion exhibit.

From Thursday, July 4 to Sunday, July 7, the event will occur from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Guests can bring their food for a picnic or purchase flood on-site. Food service is available at the Terrace Café presented by Gil’s Elegant Catering and includes a selection of soups, salads, sandwiches, snacks and drinks. Restaurant DeGolyer is open for visitors daily from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. A three-course seated tea at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. are also available with advanced registration.

Tickets are required for entry and will cost $5 for July. Parking is $12 when purchased online or $15 at the gate.

Brass Knuckles Corndog Beatdown

On Thursday, July 4, the Libertine Bar will host Brass Knuckles Corn Dog Beatdown. The bar opens at 4 p.m. with a regular menu and happy hour specials. The brass knuckle beatdown starts at 7 p.m.

The contest is open to all, it is free to enter with registration. All interested contestants must go to the Libertine in person or call the bar. Contestants must confirm their registration by 5 p.m. on the day at the Libertine Bar 2101 Greenville Ave.

A brass knuckles trophy and a $100 gift certificate will be given to the first-place winner. Second place will receive a $50 gift certificate and third place will get $25 in quarters. In the event of a tie, there will be a warm well tequila shoot-out.

Lakewood 4th of July Parade

This year’s theme for the Lakewood 4th of July Parade is Star Spangled Everything which is slated to take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 4.

Parade entrants should gather at 9:15 a.m. There’s no need to register a bike or float for the event, just pick up a numbered plate at the start.

First, second and third place medals will be awarded for categories like best theme costume under age 12, most patriotic float, most original float and most creative float.
