The White Rock Lake Foundation’s 17th annual golf tournament has been rescheduled to Thursday, Sept. 26, due to stormy weather conditions.
Originally planned for Thursday, May 16, at Stevens Park Golf Course, the event faced uncertainty this week amid Dallas’ wet and stormy weather, including frequent lightning strikes.
“Your safety is our top priority, and we believe this is the best decision to ensure everyone’s well-being,” the White Rock Lake Foundation said in an email. “We truly appreciate your understanding and continued support. Thank you for your patience, and we look forward to seeing you in September.”
Individuals can still sign up to play, sponsor or donate towards the tournament.
Last year the White Rock Lake Foundation’s annual golf tournament raised $56,000 to go toward renovating Winfrey Point. Golf tournament participants had the opportunity to enter raffles for gift cards, sporting events and concert tickets, among other prizes.
According to previous Advocate reporting, proceeds from the event will help fund the renovation of Winfrey Point, a historic building at White Rock Lake Park. In January 2023, the White Rock Lake Foundation provided more than $151,000 to Dallas Park and Recreation to be used for the $500,000 project.
