Schools and orgianzations all over East Dallas will be celebrating Earth Day this week, but the largest event takes place at Fair Park from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 22-24. The weekend is packed with speakers, green demonstrations, vendors, live entertainment and other events that celebrate the earth. The market features locally produced sustainable foods and a full beer garden is also on tap. Admission is free and you can find all the event details here.

Take a peak inside some of the most interesting properties in the neighborhood during the 11th-annual White Rock Lake Home Tour. A benefit for Hexter Elementary School, this year’s event is scheduled April 23 and April 24 from noon to 5 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance (available here), or $20 at the door.

Artists from all over the country, including noteworthy painter Nikki Gulley and photographer Scott Williams, both of Dallas, will display their work for sale. All pieces are inspired by nature and displayed in the lush garden setting. This Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., visitors can view the work, watch artistic demonstrations and enjoy food and entertainment in the arboretum.

 

Although a January fire badly damaged the auditorium at Woodrow Wilson High School, the annual spring show will go on as planned. Think of the students fondly as they tackle “Phantom of the Opera,” set to run April 21 through 23at 7:30 p.m., with a 2:30 p.m. matinee set for April 24. Doors open 30 minutes before each show and tickets cost $10-$18 (cheaper if purchased in advance here). Lakewood Elementary School’s Spring Carnival is Saturday from 2-6 p.m. and includes activities for the entire family. Expect all of the traditional carnival fun: rides, games and plenty of treats at the school, 3000 Hillbrook. Admission includes unlimited rides and 10 tickets for food and drink. All proceeds will benefit the school.

 

Take yoga and raise funds for neighborhood summer camp programs this Saturday at Samuell Grand Recreation Center. Lotus Yoga Dallas and City Yoga will be offering Yoga in the Park: Flow for Samuel Grand with fitness, live music by Ryan Rynbrandt and Max Johnston, giveaways and local vendors like Hypnotic Donuts, CryoUSA and Dallas Running Club, among others. The day begins with a family friendly yoga class with registration beginning at 8 a.m. with yoga at 9:30 a.m. Tickets are $20 but kids are free. All of the day’s proceeds benefit summer recreation programs at Samuell Grand, 6200 E. Grand.

 

Learn about wine this Thursday at the fifth-annual In Vino Educatis, a fundraiser hosted by the DFW chapter of Room to Read. At Times Ten Cellars on April 21 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. you will find live performances, fine wine and a silent and live auction. Funds raised that night will benefit read-a-thons in local Title 1 schools, as well as support literacy and gender equality programs in 10 countries in Asia and Africa. Times Ten Cellars can be found at 6324 Prospect Ave and tickets are $16.74 – $32.49 and available here.
