The signs are already up at the Minyard’s — pharmacy closing on Feb. 3, store closing on Feb. 6, bank branch closing "due to circumstances out of our control." Who would have thought a grocery store closing would make me weepy?

But it’s damn sad in the Minyard’s. Last Saturday morning, there were about a dozen customers in the store, during what should have been one of the busiest times of the week. The shelves are starting to thin out, with big empty spaces in the spaghetti and some of the canned goods. I smile and say hello to the employees, and maybe it’s me, but they sure do look unhappy when they answer. But why wouldn’t they? I have been told most of them will be offered jobs elsewhere, but many of them have been working there as long as I have been shopping there. So if I’m sad, how do they feel?
