The YMCA White Rock recently kicked off its 2011 Partners Campaign. Roughly 100 people attended the kickoff dinner at Times Ten Cellars. The speakers, who included Advocate worship columnist and Wilshire Baptist Church senior pastor George Mason, encouraged attendees to get excited about the campaign and realize the impact their donation makes. Campaign organizers hope to raise $180,000 this year. At kickoff, the Y had already raised 56 percent of its goal. Funds raised during the campaign represent 10 percent of the Y’s annual budget.

Through the campaign, the Y is able to help and sponsor the less fortunate. The White Rock YMCA hosts after school programs for more than 200 children, and also supports the Urban Swim Initiative, which provides swim lessons for minority students. The campaign also funds camping, membership, teen and leadership programs, outreach programs, youth sports and special needs programs. As Carol Whitsitt said during the dinner, the Y helps a youth become an “overall better person.” Whitsitt is the YMCA at White Rock’s director of youth development. Donate here.
