You might remember reading about Michelle Pasillas in Advocate’s May issue, which features graduating high school seniors who managed to excel in school despite difficulties.
He told us at the time that his hope was to go to Texas Tech University in Lubbock to play football and major in engineering, but he had several setbacks, which you can read about here.
This week, we received an email from the Gustavo Ipiña Memorial Scholarship Fund, saying Pasillas is this year’s recipient of the Gustavo Ipiña Memorial Scholarship (GIMS).
According to the email, Taly Haffar, the scholarship’s founder, enjoyed the article about the standout students in the May 2014 Advocate.
“We knew you’d be thrilled to know that Michelle is pursuing his dream of higher education at Texas Tech University,” the email states. “We were pleased to award him $5000 towards his education in memory of Gustavo Ipiña — another class act.”
You can read more about the fund here. On December 6, Taly will host the 10th Annual GIMS Winter Party & Fundraiser. Learn more.
