Five Woodrow Wilson High School seniors (click here for photo) each won $5,000 scholarships from the State Fair of Texas today at a luncheon held at The Music Hall at Fair Park. The Woodrow seniors — Crystal Jamaica, Macy Crabb, Spencer Miller, Kelsey Flynn and Katherine Gresback — joined 23 other DISD honorees from James Madison, Lincoln and North Dallas high schools in receiving the awards; the event was sponsored by Time Warner Cable. The State Fair has awarded more than $2.1 million in scholarships since 1992; the awards are made in $1,250 per year increments and renewed annually for the student’s four-year Texas college enrollment as long as the students maintain a 3.0 GPA each year. Michael Sorrell, president of Paul Quinn College, was the luncheon speaker, and Natalie Solis of Fox 4 News presented the awards. Neighborhood resident Candis Wheat, who works in the State Fair’s communications department, helped organize the event.
