Back in the day, it seems White Rock Lake was the go-to place in the neighborhood to wash your fancy new car.

This photo from the Dallas Public Library and posted on the Pioneers of Dallas County Facebook page shows automobile owners driving to the lake to take advantage of the flowing water near the spillway.

Sure, it probably wasn’t great for the environment, but can we blame these thrifty former neighbors for wanting to skip the car wash and save a few bucks?

It’s unclear when the photo was taken, but some neighbors speculated on Facebook that it was sometime in the 1950s based on the model of cars.

Lest you get any ideas, barriers now surrounded the spillway, making it inadvisable to attempt this seemingly popular pastime.
