The man who is leasing the Whole Foods on Greenville Avenue says he hopes to have a tenant in place before the new store opens on Abrams Road sometime at the end of next year. Tim Hughes of Falcon Realty, who handles much of the supermarket chain’s leasing in the Southwest, told me that he is open to pretty much anything — as long as it isn’t a grocery, health food or vitamin store.

The land (owned in part by city councilman Mitch Rasansky) is zoned community retail. This limits the property to four stories in height, and no residential. There is some talk in the neighborhood, which I’m trying to chase down, that there are plans to put some sort of mixed-used retail/residential there. But that would require a zoning change. Hughes had to take a phone call just as I was about to ask that question, but he promised to call back. If I hear from him, I’ll update this entry.
