Much of Lakewood-based artist Grant Smith’s work focuses on the greats of old-time baseball, especially those with a dark side.
He draws inspiration from the stories of Ty Cobb, Roy Campanella and Joe Jackson, among many other baseball players and athletes of many disciplines.
As a pastime, he helps bring old-time baseball to life. We found his photo in this story about vintage-rules baseball.
The participants don’t wear gloves or protective gear, and someone called a ‘talleykeeper’ rings a bell with each run scored. This is baseball by 1860s rules, and it’s definitely a whole other ballgame.
