This is Black History Month, and Dallas ISD is celebrating African Americans’ rich history, stories, and achievements. Throughout the month, we will explore the theme “Black Resilience” and provide academic and cultural opportunities to learn about the accomplishments of African Americans and their central role in U.S. history. Recognizing Excellence

Cowboys Class Acts powered by Reliant Energy honors teachers who constantly encourage, lead and strive for excellence in the classroom. Once a month during the school year, the Dallas Cowboys and Reliant recognize a teacher in the DFW area for their phenomenal work empowering our youth.

We are thrilled to share that Theresa Benedetto from Woodrow Wilson High School was named the January Class Acts Teacher of the Month. We are so grateful for the work that you do to serve our students, Ms. Benedetto.

Master Principals

In Dallas ISD, we hold our staff members to very high standards. Today I am proud to celebrate District 2 principals who have earned the “Master Principal” distinction. Please join me in congratulating Brittany Thompson from Lakewood Elementary, Margaret Huff from Mockingbird Elementary, Marissa Limon from Dan D. Rogers Elementary, and Michael Tatum from Henry W. Longfellow Middle School. We are eternally grateful for the hard work and dedication they pour into our schools.

Graduation Season Approaches

Graduation season is approaching quickly! Hillcrest High School’s graduation ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 27th, at 3:30 pm. Woodrow Wilson High School’s ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 28th, at 9:00 am. Both ceremonies will be held in person at Alfred J. Loos Athletic Complex and streamed online. If you are unable to watch a commencement ceremony live, you can find all of the graduation events on the district’s YouTube channel playlist after the live event.

Read to the Final Four

The NCAA Women’s Final Four is coming to Dallas ISD with a fun academic challenge. Thousands of third-grade students are combining their collective reading times to compete against other campuses in the “Read to the Final Four” competition.

The final four schools with the highest reading averages by May 19 will receive special prizes, including a trip to open practice at the Women’s Final Four. The top-performing school will earn a $5,000 Scholastic library, a trophy and a championship banner. Reading aloud for half an hour every day helps improve young readers’ confidence and proficiency.
