Subscribers to SPIN, that edgy music magazine, may recognize Paul Slocum from the rag’s January feature titled “Dallas, Rock City”. Or maybe you know him as your funky East Dallas neighbor. Whenever or wherever you might have met Slocum and his fellow performer, Lauren Gray, they probably left an impression. Paradoxical music-making methods with their band, Tree Wave, set them apart from the rest. Their ultra modern music actually was created on retro computer equipment — we’re talking Commodore 64 and Atari game consoles. And experimental art routinely accompanied their avant-garde melodies, so it was no surprise when Slocum opened up the And/Or art gallery in East Dallas, which SPIN magazine called “one of the city’s preeminent spaces”.
