Leading up to the lighting, conducted by Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson, there were plenty of activities to keep attendees busy.

Troop 43 began the evening by leading the group in the pledge of allegiance.

Choirs from Bishop Lynch High School, Bryan Adams High School, Woodrow Wilson High School, Lakewood Presbyterian and CC Young sang carols.

Local vendors were invited to set up tents to sell or give away their products and showcase their businesses. There was also face painting, balloon animals, photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus and a petting zoo.

Attendees were invited to donate canned food to White Rock Center of Hope, and Albertsons, which is located in the shopping center, pledged to match donations up to 100 cans.
