The big tropical flavors and tiny umbrellas will flow on Ross Avenue when Pilikia opens its doors next week.
“With the craft cocktail movement already being strongly established in Dallas, we wanted to offer concept that dives deeper into the Tiki culture which separates us from the rest. When you arrive at Pilikia, you will be entering the tropical paradise of Polynesia,” says Chris Beardon, principle partner of SBBC Hospitium, a group that has staked its reputation on craft-cocktail concepts with spots like Punk Society and The Tipsy Alchemist. “The place is adorned with vintage wooden artifacts, antiques, Tiki art, day bed seating, swinging chairs, puffer-fish lighting, comfortable lounge seating, long shotgun style bar and an entire wall of Tiki skulls and masks with scattered Tiki ‘knick-knacks.’”
The space at 3113 Ross Ave., in Bryan Place, used to house Three Sheets, but now will pay homage to the islands, a trend that boomed in popularity following WWII. The new bar will launch with a soft opening on Thursday, Jan. 26, beginning at 8 p.m. As the staff of 25 gets used to serving Tiki-enthusiasts, they will offer more limited hours from 8 p.m.-close (whenever that is) Tuesday-Thursday, 8 p.m.-2 a.m. Friday-Saturday. By Feb. 7, the hours will extend Tuesday-Friday, 5 p.m.-close (2 a.m. on Friday) and Saturday from 8 p.m.-2 a.m. Happy hour is from 5-7 p.m.
“We may be opening Saturday and Sunday daytime when nicer weather comes around in the springtime,” Beardon says.
