Tietze Park is set to reveal its latest addition, a sand volleyball court, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, March 30 at 11 a.m. The latest playing field comes nine months after Dallas Park and Recreation approved the proposed sand court on June 29, 2023.

The initiative for the new court was driven by supportive neighbors and facilitated by a partnership between Tietze Park and Friends of Tietze Park and Recreation. Approval for the court followed several community input meetings, with the final meeting on June 21, 2023.

It took 53 days to complete the execution of the project. Construction began Dec. 4, 2023 and ended Feb. 23.

The estimated cost of the installation was around $40,000 to $45,000 in 2022, but ended up totaling $50,00. Private donations accounted for 50% of the funding, and the other 50% came from the park department, through the 2017 bond.

“This amenity will provide a new dimension for Tietze Park that will be attractive to multiple age groups, now and in the future,” Lisa Marshall, the president of Friends of Tietze Park, said in a previous statement. “The community input, both pro and con, has been important in guiding this project to be the best fit.”

District 14 Dallas City Council member Paul E. Ridley and District 14 Dallas Park and Recreation board member Rudy Karimi,  and Friends of Tietze Park will be in attendance at the ribbon-cutting ceremony commemorating the official opening of the newly constructed sand volleyball court.
