47409_optI laughed out loud when a friend asked me about the dress code for the slam poetry event happening at the Bath House Cultural Center this Saturday (which, yes, I’m planning to attend, in case you were wondering). I seriously doubt there’s a dress code; this is slam poetry, so if you’re expecting Robert Frost, you’re in for a surprise. This Saturday, June 29, six spoken-word artists are prepared to unleash (on an apparently unsuspecting public) their deepest secrets during the show 6ix Confessions at the Bath House Cultural Center. The show, curated by artist and fashion entrepreneur Rhianna Mack, starts at 7 p.m. and features poetry brought to life via shadow puppetry and live visual art. Call 214.670.8749 for more information. Tickets are $10 per person.

Screen Shot 2013-06-25 at 11.03.44 AMAlso this Saturday, June 29, the Dallas Cityscape exhibit is opening at the Galleria. It’s running until Sept. 2, so you’ve got plenty of time to see it, but I suggest you do so at some point — if not for the sake of seeing an elaborate re-creation of the Dallas skyline made entirely out of “toy bricks” (*cough Legos cough*) and other building elements, but you can also raise funds for East Dallas Community School. Think of the children! Even those of us who aren’t children or design geeks, can appreciate that. The exhibit is available Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. It also includes a kids’ construction zone to inspire guests to build their own creations. The exhibit is at The Galleria, Level 1 across from Grand Lux Café. Entrance fee is $5 for ages 2 and up.

On June 30, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. professional and amateurs alike will face for the best okra recipes. There will be raffle prizes donated by Greenling and Hotel Palomar, and Grammy-nominated Russ Hewitt will play at the event. Funds will go toward the new Promise of Peace garden in Little Forest Hills. The event will be held at The LOT, 7530 E. Grand. For more info, go to their website, or call 214.240.9220. Tickets are $35.
