The Lakewood Library Fest is Saturday, Sept. 10 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. It’s a fundraiser for the library to buy new materials with a book sale and raffle. Food and drinks form Whole Foods will be for sale too. And you can win this lovely blanket from the infamous and mysterious Knit Wits.

The 16th annual Dog Day Afternoon is from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11 at Flagpole Hill. It’s a free festival benefiting the no-kill shelter, Operation Kindness.

Dogwood Canyon Audubon Center in Cedar Hill holds its grand opening from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and noon-5 p.m. Sunday. It’s out of the area, but ornithologist and Forest Hills resident Patty McGill is the center’s director. And its opening makes Dallas County the only place in the country with two National Audubon Centers.
