The Wiz — a 1970s musical re-telling of L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz — opens Friday at the Dallas Theater Center, a Kevin Moriarty directed production that is a collaboration between Dallas Theater Center and Dallas Black Dance Theater.
“I have loved The Wiz since childhood. The exuberant songs and excitement of the story provide a wonderful opportunity for theatricality on a grand scale. Incorporating the element of dance into the story-telling will only heighten the magic of the production.” says Moriarty. “This collaboration will provide our audience with a unique and truly unforgettable theater-going experience, while also furthering DTC’s commitment to engage with our community in new and stimulating ways.”
Listen for Lakewood’s own Mike Drake on drums.
