UPDATE: According to the Observer’s blog, in a story headlined "Jesus Saves … the Marcus House", the Lovvorns have decided not to tear the home down. Click here to read that story, and then continue on below to find out how everything reached this point.

ORIGINAL POST: I might have missed it, but I didn’t see the Morning News credit Robert Wilonsky and the Dallas Observer for their Monday "scoop" about a Lakewood family’s controversial plans to tear down Stanley Marcus’ estate on Nonesuch Lane (64 comments on the DMN site as of 9 p.m. Thursday night). Oh well, Wilsonsky laid out the story extremely well the other day in the original post and a follow-up story, we picked up on his story Tuesday, and the DMN published a story Thursday about preservationists’ outrage at the Lovvorn family’s plans to demolish the historic 10,000-square-foot home. Interestingly, the DMN contacted Marcus’ two children, one of whom sided with preservationists on the issue and one of whom said the Lovvorns had the right to do as they wished with the property. All in all, it’s an interesting story that says a lot about Texas property rights and our city’s interest in historic preservation — and what it says is those two are kind of like oil and water.
