The two-for-one sushi special at Blue Fish attracts a number of repeat lunch customers. One man sitting at the bar claimed to frequent the restaurant three times a week during the noon hour. “We lose money on him,” jokes owner Julie Lee, prompting a smile from her regular diner. In all seriousness, though, it’s one of the best deals in town — pay $5.50 and get four pieces of tuna sushi, for example, instead of two — so it’s no wonder the restaurant fills up every weekday during lunch. Another big seller is the bento boxes for “people who want to try a little bit of everything,” Lee says. The most popular comes in a sleek black box lined with red compartments holding sushi and sashimi as well as salad, California rolls and fresh fruit. And those who don’t partake of raw fish can order a box with chicken teriyaki or grilled salmon accompanied by dumplings and tempura. Though it’s not a lunch special, we also recommend trying the ahi tower, piled high with sushi rice, avocado salad, crab meat and spicy ahi tuna tartar. Admire its beautiful presentation, then smash it up with the caviar and creamy wasabi dressing for a scrumptious (and surprisingly filling) meal.
