The sixth annual Fall Pie Contest is coming up on Sunday, Nov. 9 at the new Vickery Meadow Local Market (VMLM), which is held in the northwest corner of the Half Price Books at 5803 E. Northwest Highway. (If you haven’t heard about the Vickery Meadow Local Market, it’s the result of White Rock Local Market receiving a grant for more than $78,000 from the USDA to support the launch of the new market in the Vickery Meadow neighborhood. If you’re interested in visiting, here’s how.)

For those interested in being a pie contestant, plan to provide samples at a public tasting from noon–2 p.m. Market attendees judge the competition and decide winners within the categories of Fruit, Nut, Chocolate, Cream/Custard, Savory and Youth.

All pie crusts and fillings must be homemade. Winners in each category will receive gift certificates to be used at either Vickery Meadow Local Market or White Rock Local Market.

Contestants pay $10 per entry and bakers must provide two pies per entry. Deadline for registration is November 7.  To register go to www.whiterocklocalmarket.org, or call 214.797.4989. Tasting tickets can be purchased day of for $5 at the VMLM information desk.
