For better or worse, the best way to earn more than minimum wage as a teenager in this neighborhood seems to be as a babysitter. My days of hiring sitters are over, but I’m told they’re pulling in $10 an hour or more. From 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, kids 11-15 can earn a babysitting certification at the YMCA at White Rock, 7301 Gaston. Included are interviewing skills for wowing potential parent employers, CPR and first aid training, and basic baby-care tips and skills. Cost is $60 for YMCA members, $80 for nonmembers. And if you can’t make the Feb. 27 event, two more are scheduled March 16 & 27.
