I have this reoccurring dream in which all my teeth fall out, and I’ve had another in which I am floating in a canoe across an ocean where  belly-up dead sharks bob across the water.

A couple years ago when I wrote a story about dream interpretation, I learned the one about the teeth is common and possibly a response to stress or fear of getting old. The dead sharks might symbolize victory over a threat … there’s a point here, I promise.

Around the time of researching said story, I interviewed an impressive guy named Damien who teaches at the School of Metaphysics, located right here in our neighborhood, at 5832 Live Oak, next door to Lakewood Landing. They do fascinating things there at the school, and this weekend they will let the public in for a look.

Saturday, January 2, and the following, Jan. 9, the school will host an open house from 3 p.m.-9 p.m.

Also in January, the school kicks off its Dream Interpretation class. The class meets every Thursday from 7-9 p.m. Jan. 7 – Jan. 28, and costs $80.

Another class entitled Courses in Practical, Applied Metaphysics: Mastery of Consciousness will meet Wednesdays from 7:30-10:30 p.m. throughout the month — this class is billed as a "guide through the stages of mind and awareness training that focuses on building concentration, meditation, and visualization through 10 essential life skills and harmonizing with universal laws." The suggested weekly donation for this class is $20.

There’s probably no better time to get in touch with your inner self (and your dead sharks) than the beginning of a new year. (Plus, dream interpretation makes for fun party fodder!)
