This weekend, plan to cheer on your East Dallas schools at the White Rock Spring Games from April 11-13. Boys and girls from East Dallas area schools will compete in a wide range of individual and team events, ranging from the purely athletic to the wildly funny. There will also be food, beverages and entertainment on hand to create a festive atmosphere of community camaraderie. The events will take place at Lake Highlands Park, at the corner of Buckner and Lake Highlands Boulevard. For more, go to the website, or email questions to pamela@whiterockgames.com. It costs anywhere from $25-$100 to participate.

If you’re considering donating to LEEF and haven’t yet, folks will be at 6601 Vanderbilt this morning until 8:40 a.m. and this afternoon at 6728 Vanderbilt from 2:45-3:40 p.m. to collect donations. LEEF raised more than $160,000 in March, but it still has about $135,o00 to go before it reaches its goal of $500,000. Read more.

Coming up in April, Lakewood Elementary and the Lakewood PTA are hosting their Spring Carnival on April 26. The carnival, A Space Odyssey, needs sponsors and donations for on-line auction prizes (see the list of suggested items).

Woodrow Wilson High School’s spring musical is coming down the pike from April 24-27. This year, join Woodrow for its rendition of “Funny Girl,” the entertaining story of famous comedienne Fanny Brice, from her start in New York vaudeville to her rise to fame as star of the Ziegfeld Follies. Fanny falls in love and marries Nick Arnstein, a handsome gambler whose luck eventually runs out. The musical includes memorable songs such as “Don’t Rain on My Parade,” “I’m the Greatest Star,” “The Music That Makes Me Dance,” and the iconic hit “People.” Woodrow Wilson High School Auditorium is located at 100 S. Glasgow. Visit the website for more information. Tickets are $10-$18.

Victor H. Hexter Elementary School is looking for volunteers to work 2.5 hour shifts in one of five mid-century and modern homes on the White Rock Home Tour coming up April 26-27. “Double shifts are doubly appreciated,” the newsletter says. To volunteer, email Diane McGhee at dannermcghee@prodigy.net.
