Here’s some school news nuggets you might need to know for the upcoming week:

  • Stonewall Jackson Elementary School is gearing up for the 3rd Annual Food Truck Field Day on March 29, and there’s going to be a new addition to the event this year:  The White Top Book Sale. So Stonewall needs as many books as they can get before then. There’s a bin in the front hall outside the office for donations. All proceeds will benefit Stonewall Gardens.
  • Alex Sanger Elementary is hosting  a kindergarten roundup and community tour on Wednesday. The community tour is at 9 a.m. and the kinder roundup, which is geared towards students about to enter kindergarten, starts at 6 p.m. The tours will begin in the foyer. Read more on the website.
  • Lakewood Early Childhood PTA is hosting the Comerica For the Love of Lakewood Piggy Bank Challenge to raise money for the Lakewood Elementary Expansion Foundation (better known as the LEEF initiative). Lakewood Elementary students have until Feb. 19 to become the classroom with the most spare change in their classroom piggy bank. The classroom that collects the most money will win a cookie cake class party and $100 gift card for their teacher. Learn more.
  • Don’t forget, coming up on Saturday, March 1, Friends of Lakewood will host a fundraiser concert benefiting Lakewood Elementary featuring two sought after local bands, The O’s and Ronnie Fauss. Leave the kids at home and bring your better half, friends and neighbors and come out to the FOL Texas Independence Day Concert. Everyone is welcome.
