ACHulsey-1st place 2012All currently enrolled DISD high school students and Dallas-area private school students in grades 9-12 are eligible to participate in this year’s “Retail as Art” contest. The top three winners will be awarded scholarship money.

“Retail as Art” is an official 501c3 nonprofit created by Dallas-based United Commercial Realty. According to the UCR website, “UCR’s purpose for this event is to showcase the best local photographic talent, celebrate and capture the true essence of Dallas retail, and reward the winners and their schools for their talent and efforts.”

The contest is in its fifth year and has previously awarded scholarships to students at Hillcrest High School and Booker T. Washington High School. Ally Hulsey of Booker T. Washington shot the winning photo for last year’s contest (above).

 

“Retail as Art’s” kick-off party will be held on March 6 from 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. at Design Within Reach. The kick-off party will be a time for students to ask questions and review contest details with the UCR team, industry professionals and photographers. Participation forms are due by March 13.  The deadline for photo submission is April 5. On May 8 contest winners and other notable submissions will be announced and displayed at the “Retail as Art” Exhibit at Three Three Three First Avenue Studio.
