Authorities said one person attempting a robbery was shot dead by the potential victim Tuesday night in an apartment complex near Greenville Avenue.
The shooting happened around 9 p.m. at Mockingbird Flats in the 5600 block of SMU Boulevard.
Police said they found the resident, identified as 26-year-old Justin McNeely, outside the apartment suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to an area hospital, where he was treated and released.
McNeely admitted to shooting the intruder, who tried to rob him at gunpoint in his apartment. Physical evidence at the scene supports his claim, police said.
The homeowner was released from custody, and his case will be referred to a grand jury.
The person who was killed has not yet been identified.
