Just like restaurants, local retailers are feeling the negative effects of the coronavirus. Some East Dallas shops have decided to close as a precaution against its spread.

- Half Price Books on Northwest Highway has closed its doors because of the coronavirus. The flagship location is one of the chain’s 126 stores in 17 states that is temporarily closing to customers until March 31. The retailer will continue to allow curbside pickup of books. In some markets, deliveries will be made to people’s homes. “There are no official layoffs from the company, and we are keeping all full- and part-time employees,” said Kathy Doyle Thomas, chief strategy officer at Half Price.
- Kathy Fielder closed her brick-and-mortar boutiques on Greenville Avenue and in New Orleans. The online store is still accepting orders. A portion of sales will go to fight hunger for children, families and the elderly during the rising risk of food scarcity because of the coronavirus.Â
- The Little Things has temporarily closed its doors at the Hillside Village Shopping Center. The children’s boutique will be open for online shopping with free shipping. It will also be open by appointment for one customer at a time. Email info@shopthelittlethings.com to make an appointment. The owners said in an email the shop would reopen when it is safe to do so.
