The testing site is one of a few Dallas County is setting up in response to an increase of COVID-19 cases, especially because of the omicron variant. Tests became available today at the Ellis Davis Field House, located at 9191 S. Polk Street.

Though the omicron variant seems to spread more easily than other variants, the CDC says current vaccines should protect against severe illness, hospitalizations and deaths caused by the variant, which was first detected in South Africa. Some breakthrough infections in people who are fully vaccinated may still occur.

There has been a recent surge of cases in our area. On New Year’s Eve, Dallas County reported more than 2,600 new cases. And this comes as at-home rapid tests remain in short supply and are becoming more expensive. Plus, Dallas ISD students return to classes today and neighbors are heading back to work after the holiday.

Appointments are required to get tested at Samuell Grand, 3201 Samuell Blvd. The site is open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday starting Jan. 6. Schedule an appointment here.
