The Texas Monthly “Breakfast!” issue arrived in my mailbox recently, and two neighborhood places are featured among the seven “best” breakfast spots in Dallas: Company Cafe and White Rock Local Market.
Company Cafe opened on Lower Greenville in April, offering healthier versions of comfort food. Texas Monthly recommends the Deep Bowl, a sweet potato hash with eggs, avocado and choice of meat. “Stacks of daily newspapers on the counter, serve-yourself coffee and tea, and sunlight pouring through huge picture windows all add up to a laid-back vibe,” says the magazine.
White Rock Local Market is a twice-monthly market from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. The magazine recommends croissants from Village Baking Company: “We swoon over the pistachio, almond-pear and fig varieties, along with the classic pain au chocolat…” They also recommend kombucha tea and breakfast tacos from Green Spot Market & Fuels.
Dallas-based Cafe Brazil also makes an appearance in the magazine as one of the best places to have breakfast in Fort Worth.
It’s cool that Texas Monthly would make less-than-obvious choices in our neighborhood.
Let’s make a list of our seven favorite places for breakfast in the neighborhood. It’s hard because there are a lot.
Here are mine, in no particular order, and not counting brunch-only places: Henk’s European Deli & Black Forest Bakery, Tacos El Guero, The Gold Rush Cafe, Good 2 Go Taco, The Taco Joint, Barbec’s, Legal Grounds. What are your favorites?
