My mother and I had dinner at NorthPark’s P.F. Chang’s last night, and the hostess handed us flip menus I hadn’t seen before. We still ordered what we always order — chicken lettuce wraps and honey crispy chicken — but I was intrigued by the dessert and drinks menu offering new $2 mini desserts.

The minis are billed as "a little something to satisfy your sweet tooth."  The eight flavors — banana split, strawberry cheesecake, apple pie, s’mores, tres leche lemon dream, carrot cake, tiramisu and mini Great Wall of Chocolate — come layered in a shot glass.

Our waiter recommended the carrot cake and tiramisu; we tried both and agreed with his assessment. He steered us away from the banana split, the pretty one in the foreground of the photo, because it doesn’t have any ice cream layered in, which usually disappoints people, he says. Our waiter also recommended the cappuccino instead of coffee because apparently the espresso is made with better grounds.

I thought the cappuccino and tiramisu were perfect together and, like the tagline proclaimed, just enough sweet to satisfy.  Plus, if I didn’t like it, it was only $2.

Though I’m not sure any of the minis could top the banana spring rolls …
