Staff of the intergenerational residential facility as well as members of Fowler’s Grandfriends group, the Artful Awakenings group, senior residents and the grief group will participate in the project alongside many other artists from around the country.

The 10-foot-by-20-foot Southwest Regional Mural Mosaic, which will be unveiled March 29 on the south wall of Pearl Nordan Care Center facing Fulton Street, will be created by more than 1,500 artists who each paint a tile.

The tiles will be grouped to form a tree, this year’s symbol of connection.

Mural Mosaic has been connecting people through art since 2003. Its Global Roots program put together its first national mural with Canada Connects in April 2021.

Artist Lewis Lavoie, who will be at the mural unveiling at Fowler along with co-producer Paul Lavoie, invented the Mural Mosaic process, which includes placing individual paintings in a certain order to create a large painting.

“This collaborative work of art is a visual legacy reflecting that when we come together, we can create something truly special,” project director Tracy Oliver said in a news release.

Mosaic tree murals will be placed in communities around the world.

“We’re excited to see our Fowler Communities’ tile creations come together with others from throughout the country to form a beautiful mural — a perfect display of diversity and unity,” Fowler President and CEO Nicole Gann said in a release.
