There’s an interesting story in today’s Dallas News about ongoing efforts to protect and restore the Parks House, which is more familiar to many neighborhood residents as the former YMCA building at 6220 Worth. According to the story, Preservation Dallas has brokered a deal with the two lenders on the property to donate the house to Preservation Dallas in exchange for Preservation Dallas ensuring that the house is sold to someone willing to restore the property as a single-family home (its original use). Frequent Back Talk blog contributor Veletta Lill had a role in saving the building and she’s quoted in the story. Preservation Dallas is taking bids for the house through April 2; initial asking price is $350,000, but before you start frothing at the mouth about what a great deal this is, remember that the property has been vacant for a number of years and Preservation Dallas estimates that at least $450,000 will be needed to renovate the property.
