Tony Barsotti, the artist, musician and furniture designer opening a bar called Here with Polyphonic Spree singer and manager Julie Doyle, says the target date for opening the bar is within the next four or five weeks.

HereĀ is going to be aesthetically different from many of the East Dallas bars that have become popular hang outs. “It’s not going to have open garage doors and dogs,” he says.Ā “We both had a little bit of a humble lust for this type of place. We started out wanting a bar with cheese and a piano, and then as we got in it, it just started evolving.”

“But she and I also share a liking for late 60s and early 70s decor,” he says. With that in mind the first-time bar owners found carpet, brightly colored bar stools and Barsotti built a massive wood panel wall that curves at the top ā€” a design that harkens back to airplane lounge bars of the 70s.

“It’s been a long eight months,” Barsotti says of the project that’s been two years in the making. The bar is opening betweenĀ Margieā€™s Wig Salon and the Kitchen Recording StudioĀ at 9028 Garland, an area that Barsotti says is underserved.Ā After doing some researching and finding a location that they liked in the area, they decided to roll the dice. Since then the duo haveĀ done much of the bar redesign themselves.

ā€œWeā€™re completely DIY. Weā€™ve done everything except the skilled trades like plumbing and electrical.ā€

“Secretly, it’s been pretty fun,” he says.
