A Dallas police officer shot a person known to the department for criminal mischief and burglary of motor vehicles in East Dallas on Sunday, police said.
Officers were patrolling in the 1900 block of Bennett Avenue, near Monarch Street, around 7:10 p.m. Sunday, when they saw the person in the parking lot of an apartment building.
The person was “uncooperative,” and police used a taser, police said.
The person kept fighting and pulled out a handgun. One officer fired their gun, hitting the person in the torso.
Dallas Fire-Rescue took the person to a hospital in critical condition, and no officers were injured.
The person is still in critical condition as of 8 a.m. Monday, a public information officer for the Dallas Police Department said.
Police will hold a press conference Wednesday afternoon to provide more information about the incident, but a specific time has not yet been announced.
