It’s not every day you meet an ant-eater or hold a massive snake. But that’s just what students experienced when the Dallas Zoo came to J.L. Long Middle School recently.

The youth got up-close and personal with animals who represented the seven continents. The day was organized by science teachers Michael Jones and Johnny Deleon for their Zoo Crew, a newly formed campus club that’s all about animals.

The Zoo Crew is an animal-focused club at J.L. Long which empowers our middle-school youth to become conservation leaders by providing science learning experiences that inspire them to learn, care and be responsible for living animals in our world,” Jones says. “Through the Zoo Crew program, we excite youth about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) subjects by engaging with real-world conservation issues.”
